The Welsh Government (WG) Staff Sight Test Scheme enables WG employees to access a sight test at an optometry practice of their choice in Wales.
Employees using the scheme should present a valid WG sight test voucher at their appointment. The voucher should have been obtained and approved through their employer prior to attending the practice.
The appointment should include a full eye examination to assess the patient’s vision and eye health, including whether a specific prescription is required for Visual Display Unit (VDU) or screen-based work.
Where the examination identifies that spectacles are required specifically for VDU use, the voucher covers the sight test and a standard pair of single vision spectacles suitable for the employee’s VDU work, in accordance with the terms of the scheme.
Where a VDU correction is required, the voucher may also be used as a contribution towards an alternative or upgraded pair of spectacles, including occupational, bifocal or varifocal lenses, provided the spectacles incorporate the correction required for VDU use.
If the employee chooses spectacles that cost more than the amount covered by the voucher, the patient is responsible for paying the remaining balance.
Spectacles may be selected on the same day as the eye examination.
